Improving Your Drumming?
Its A Way Of Life!
My journey to learning Drums has been tricky.
It has been filled with challenges I had to avoid or conquer, get over or just get past!
Just like life in so many ways!
I will leave that there, but the challenges and solutions are often the same in principle.
I wish I had known or realised that earlier. I would have gotten much farther along the road in a shorter space in time.
That is how I see my job in educating people.

Listen.Analyse.Play.
"Find a song you love, and play along with it!"
Words I heard and tried to follow. Its what I believe we mostly do.
And that is how our instinct tells us to go along our journey particularly as we begin.
It is very soon the case that we realise there might be more to this than learning to play Drums.
At this point we often find a teacher and abandon what we learned before, in favour of doing what the teacher advises.
This is the correct path, with one exception. We should never ignore our instinct!
We do as we are told and study, reading, counting and technique, but we must return to playing first and foremost.
After all its where the fun is!
So the key is to play and use the techniques and ideas we are shown by our teachers.
When we do this we get a feel for the exercises and hopefully we include them in our playing everyday!
That is why I have begun using this old, engrained idea to push my students forward to become, not a copy of another Drummer, but the best version of themselves they can possibly be.
Dare I say not just as a Drummer but also as a Person!

Best course of Action!
It doesn't matter if we fail or make mistakes. We learn and improve and implement changes in practice.
Now I believe it is essential we do make mistakes, early on!
Build CV of gigs
Gigs can be good or bad, the difference is what we learn in the process!
Tell people about the good gigs but the bad ones should teach you more!
Lifelong learning!
Experience teaches us!
That means we learn and grow and never stop studying.
This is what stops people from growth, as they become unteachable by believing once they leave school, thats it they have all they need to know!
Its a choice, but we choose to always learn!
Why choose me?
Learn from Everyone Every time!
Life throws up challenges to us everyday, and we learn from them.
We expect we only really learn when we are studying in a class but that is not the whole picture!
Different gigs, different people, different attitudes and ideals. They are all out there. Some are nice, some are not but you will learn to deal with them all !
